DIY - Tail Light Tinting
Tools / Costs
Tinting Spray - £12.99 - Revolution
Clear Lacquer - £2.78 - Morpeth Motor Parts
Wet & Dry, Grade 1500 - To Hand
Time
Couple Days
1) Remover Tail Lights.
2) Take the wet & dry and dip it in a dish of soapy water. Rub the lights down until super smooth. The soap reduces friction and thus stops you from scratching the surface, badly.
3) Dry the lights after sanding, they should now look slightly cloudy.
4) Repeatedly shake the tinting spray and warm it up in your hands. This helps the paint go on smoothly and evenly without spitting.
5) With an action from side to side in continuous strokes apply 1 thin layer of paint. Leave for 15min to DRY!
6) Continue process a number of times to get a nice dark even coat. NOTE: 2 or 3 coats should be dark enough as the lights must still be able to shine through sufficiently. If light doesn't they will become illegal and you will get pulled.
7) After applying all coats, leave overnight to dry.
8) Once dry, take some more warm soapy water and wet and dry the final paint surface. This will remove all blemishes. Do not rub too hard as you will remove the paint.
9) Take a can of clear lacquer, shake & warm as before then apply using the same method as the tinting spray. Be very careful not to let the lacquer run. Leave to dry for 20min!
10) Once dry, sand down again with wet & dry and soapy water.
11) Add another coat of lacquer for best results!
12) Once dry, yet again sand down with the wet and dry.
13) Wipe the Lights with a soft cloth and admire your new tinted Tail Lights.
14) If desired go over with T-Cut for a super smooth shine!
